The Workshop on the European Ocean Pact and Its Impacts was held on 22 December 2025, hosted by ATAUM, and organized in cooperation between the Ankara University National Research Center for Sea and Maritime Law (DEHUKAM) and the Ankara University European Communities Research and Application Center (ATAUM).
The workshop opened with keynote speeches delivered by H.E. Ambassador Prof. Dr. Çağrı Erhan, Deputy Chair of the Presidential Security and Foreign Policy Council and Chief Advisor to the President, Prof. Dr. Çınar Özen, Director of ATAUM, and Dr. Mustafa Başkara, CEO of DEHUKAM.
Following the opening session, presentations were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali İbrahim Akkutay, Senior Researcher at DEHUKAM, on “The European Ocean Pact, EU Practices, and Türkiye”; Dr. Tijen İğci, Expert at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye, on “The Blue Economy Approach within the European Union and the United Nations and Opportunities for Financial Cooperation”; and Dr. Feza Sencer Çörtoğlu, Deputy Director of ATAUM, on “The Strengthened Governance Framework Designed for Environmental Protection under the European Ocean Pact.”
The workshop, which comprehensively addressed the implications of the European Ocean Pact, brought together representatives from 21 different units of 11 ministries. This broad and multi-stakeholder participation made a significant contribution to the highly productive and results-oriented nature of the event.
