To mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Ankara University National Center for the Sea and Maritime Law (DEHUKAM), a national symposium themed “Current Developments in Sea and Maritime Law” will be held on 26–27 November 2025. The symposium aims to address contemporary issues in the field of sea and maritime law through an interdisciplinary approach and to strengthen the institutional capacity of sea and maritime law studies in Türkiye.
The event will feature sessions on a wide range of topics, including maritime commercial law, the marine environment, the polar regions and climate change, maritime jurisdiction areas, maritime security, arbitration and international judicial mechanisms, marine spatial planning and the blue economy, human rights at sea, and maritime criminal law. Over the two-day program, leading academics, representatives of public institutions, practitioners, and experts from the maritime sector will come together.
During the opening session, Deputy Ministers from relevant ministries will evaluate Türkiye’s current approaches and policy priorities in the field of sea and maritime law. This will be followed by the DEHUKAM Session, which will highlight institutional cooperation in the field of sea and maritime law in Türkiye and the role undertaken by DEHUKAM in this process.
Organized within the framework of DEHUKAM’s ten years of scientific experience, the symposium aims to contribute to Türkiye’s sea and maritime law vision and to provide academic, technical, and legal support to national and international studies carried out in this field.
