The Training and Workshop Program organized within the scope of the TÜBİTAK-1001 supported project titled “Project of Researching Rights and Authorities of Türkiye on Living Resources in the World’s Sea”, carried out by the Ankara University National Center for the Sea and Maritime Law (DEHUKAM), was held on 31 March 2026 at Ankara University Faculty of Law.
The program commenced with opening remarks delivered by Dr. Erdinç Güneş, Deputy Director General of Fisheries and Aquaculture at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Ermenek, Dean of Ankara University Faculty of Law, and Süleyman Önel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of DEHUKAM. The speeches emphasized the sustainable management of living marine resources, Türkiye’s rights and jurisdiction at sea, and the strategic importance of the fisheries sector.
Within the scope of the training program, the “Project Presentation” session was held under the moderation of Prof. Dr. Yücel Acer, Project Coordinator, with presentations delivered by DEHUKAM Researcher Emre Önsöz and project scholars Şule Şahan and Hakan Aksoy.
The subsequent session titled “Türkiye’s Fisheries Activities in Distant Waters” was moderated by Prof. Dr. Bayram Öztürk, Chairman of the Board of the Turkish Marine Research Foundation (TÜDAV). During this session, Prof. Dr. Bayram Öztürk presented on “Türkiye’s Fisheries Activities in the African Continent,” Prof. Dr. Osman Samsun, Faculty Member at Sinop University Faculty of Fisheries, delivered a presentation titled “Evaluation of Sustainable Anchovy Fisheries of Black Sea Coastal States,” and İlhan Üze, Head of the Department of Fishing and Control at the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture, presented on “Türkiye’s Fisheries Activities in Distant Waters”.
In the afternoon, the workshop sessions titled “Evaluation of Türkiye’s Current Fisheries Activities and Fisheries Legislation” and “Assessment of Measures to Enhance Türkiye’s Fisheries Activities at the Global Scale” were held under the moderation of Prof. Dr. Yücel Acer.
Throughout the program, the presentations and discussions contributed significantly to the development of policy recommendations aimed at enhancing Türkiye’s fisheries activities in the high seas, strengthening international cooperation, expanding access to new fishing grounds, and ensuring the sustainable management of living marine resources.
The training and workshop program fostered knowledge and experience sharing among public institutions, academia and sector stakeholders, thereby contributing to the development of a strategic perspective for the effective utilization of Türkiye’s rights and jurisdiction over living marine resources.
DEHUKAM continues to contribute at the national and international levels through its scientific research and educational activities in the field of maritime law and marine affairs.
