On 9 April 2026, the “Roundtable Meeting on Türkiye’s Current Sea and Maritime Law and Policy Strategies” was held under the auspices of DEHUKAM and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye. The meeting, organized for ASEAN member states, was attended by H.E. Mr. Chea Sok, Ambassador of Cambodia to Ankara; H.E. Mr. Kok Li Peng, Ambassador of Singapore to Ankara; H.E. Mr. Jaime Ramon T. Ascalon Jr., Ambassador of the Philippines to Ankara; Mr. Wazif Zamri, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Ankara; Ms. Mimi Kaur Ramday, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Malaysia in Ankara; Ms. Phanchita Rommayanont, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Thailand in Ankara; Mr. Tan Luu, First Secretary of the Embassy of Viet Nam in Ankara; and Mr. Dhanny Perkasa, First Secretary of the Embassy of Indonesia in Ankara.
Within the scope of the meeting, statements were delivered by H.E. Ambassador Burak Özügergin, Director General for Northeast Mediterranean Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye; Prof. Dr. Yücel Acer, Member of the Board and Leading Researcher of DEHUKAM; and Dr. Mustafa Başkara, CEO of DEHUKAM. The speeches addressed Türkiye’s current strategies in the field of the sea and maritime law and policy, and participants were also briefed on DEHUKAM’s national and international activities in the field of sea and maritime law and policy.
The meeting concluded with the closing remarks of H.E. Ambassador Serap Ersoy, Director General for Asian Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye. In her closing remarks, H.E. Ambassador Ersoy expressed her gratitude to the ambassadors and representatives of ASEAN member states for their participation, and highlighted the strong relations between Türkiye and ASEAN countries. She further emphasized the intention to enhance activities aimed at further strengthening cooperation with ASEAN countries in the forthcoming period.
