The CEO of the Ankara University National Center for the Sea and Maritime Law (DEHUKAM), Dr. Mustafa Başkara, participated as a speaker in the workshop entitled “The Impact of Fundamental Principles Governing Judicial Decisions on the Law of the Sea on Turkish Sea and Maritime Law,” which was hosted by Piri Reis University and held in Istanbul on 21 January 2026.
Within the scope of the workshop, Dr. Başkara delivered a presentation at the panel titled “Current and Potential Challenges of Turkish Sea and Maritime Law,” during which he provided assessments on the implications of international judicial decisions for Turkish sea and maritime law, practical challenges encountered in implementation, and prospective legal developments. In particular, Dr. Başkara underscored the importance of ongoing discussions within the international law of the sea regime and evolving judicial jurisprudence from the perspective of Turkish sea and maritime law.
The workshop, which attracted significant interest from academics, practitioners, and legal professionals, addressed contemporary issues in sea and maritime law in a comprehensive and multidimensional manner. The panel sessions were conducted interactively, allowing participants to contribute through questions and observations.
