The DEHUKAM 10th Anniversary Symposium, organized on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Ankara University National Center for the Sea and Maritime Law (DEHUKAM), was held at the InterContinental Grand Ankara Hotel with the sponsorship of the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping.
As Türkiye’s first and only national center in the field of sea and maritime law, DEHUKAM presented a comprehensive program in its tenth year to address contemporary issues of sea and maritime law within an interdisciplinary framework. In the opening session, DEHUKAM Chair of the Board of Directors Süleyman Önel, Deputy Ministers of the Ministries of Justice; Labor and Social Security; Foreign Affairs; Industry and Technology; Agriculture and Forestry, as well as the 26th Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye İsmet Yılmaz, evaluated Türkiye’s policy priorities and current approaches in the field of sea and maritime law. The subsequent DEHUKAM session highlighted institutional cooperation at the national level and DEHUKAM’s role in sea and maritime law studies.
During the symposium, sessions were held on topics such as maritime jurisdiction areas, protection of the marine environment, maritime commercial law, maritime security, human rights at sea, maritime criminal law, international judicial mechanisms, marine spatial planning, the blue economy, and climate change.
We extend our thanks to all institutions, speakers, and participants who contributed to this symposium organized in light of DEHUKAM’s 10 years of work.
