Hosted by the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology of İskenderun Technical University, and organized in cooperation with the Ankara University National Research Center for Sea and Maritime Law (DEHUKAM) and the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping İskenderun Branch, the event titled “II. Marine Sciences Workshop: The Blue Homeland and Maritime Jurisdiction Areas in the Eastern Mediterranean: Technology, Law, and Institutional Awareness” was held on 18 December 2025.
The workshop, hosted by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Duruel, Rector of İskenderun Technical University, was attended by Hatay Governor Mustafa Masatlı, District Governor of İskenderun Muhammet Önder, District Governor of Arsuz Fatih Eroğlu, vice rectors, representatives from public institutions and the private sector operating in the maritime field, as well as academics and students.
Within the scope of the program, DEHUKAM CEO Dr. Mustafa Başkara delivered a presentation on “The Blue Homeland Vision and the Strategic Importance of Maritime Jurisdiction Areas”; DEHUKAM Senior Researcher Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali İbrahim Akkutay spoke on “Institutional Implications of the Maritime Spatial Planning Map”; DEHUKAM Researcher Derya Ulutürk addressed “The BBNJ Agreement from the Perspective of States Not Party to UNCLOS”; and DEHUKAM Researcher Büşra Deniz presented on “Good Practice Examples in Maritime Spatial Planning.”
The workshop made a significant contribution to raising awareness of the Eastern Mediterranean within the framework of the Blue Homeland vision.
