Prof. Dr. Yücel Acer, Board Member and Leading Researcher of the Ankara University National Center for the Sea and Maritime Law (DEHUKAM) and Dr. Mustafa Başkara, CEO of DEHUKAM, participated as speakers in the “Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus” Conference organized by the Eastern Mediterranean Maritime Law Research and Application Center (DADHAM) of Çağ University on 9 Yücel 2026 in Mersin.
The opening remarks of the conference were delivered by Prof. Dr. M. Tevfik Odman, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Çağ University, and Prof. Dr. Murat Koç, Rector of Çağ University. In their opening speeches, the speakers emphasized the strategic importance of the Eastern Mediterranean in terms of international law, energy, security, and regional cooperation, while also drawing attention to the contributions of academic studies and research centers in the field of the law of the sea.
H.E. Ersin Tatar, the 5th President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, attended the conference as an invited speaker and shared his assessments regarding the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus issue.
During the conference, Prof. Dr. Yücel Acer, Board Member and Leading Researcher of DEHUKAM, delivered a presentation entitled “Recent Developments in the Eastern Mediterranean Maritime Jurisdiction Disputes”, in which he addressed the maritime jurisdiction disputes in the region and the latest developments in this regard and Dr. Mustafa Başkara, CEO of DEHUKAM, delivered a presentation entitled “Recent Developments in the Law of the Sea and Türkiye’s Marine Spatial Planning”, in which he evaluated recent developments in international law of the sea and the importance of marine spatial planning.
