Information Note on the United Nations Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships

The United Nations Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships (Beijing Convention), prepared by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), regulates the sale of ships through judicial proceedings for various claims when such ships, which are registered in a state other than the one where they are engaged in their activities, call at ports and territorial waters of different countries. Beijing Convention, was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 7 December 2022, and entered into force on 17 February 2026.
