The webinar on ‘Strait of Hormuz: Strategic, Economic and Maritime Security Dimensions’, organized by the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA, Pakistan), has been held.

The seminar titled “Strategic, Economic and Maritime Security Aspects of the Strait of Hormuz”, organized by the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA), was held on April 7, 2026. The event addressed one of the most critical dimensions of the ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran: the Strait of Hormuz. Experts from different parts of the world discussed its impact on the global economy, maritime security, and trade routes, as well as how states may need to reshape their policies. Participants shared perspectives on the political and legal status of the strait, its economic consequences, and possible solutions.

DEHUKAM senior researcher Ali İbrahim Akkutay evaluated the issue from the perspective of international law, highlighting the principle of “innocent passage” under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and stressing the importance of considering Iran’s national security concerns.

Experts agreed that in order to end the crisis both economically and in terms of security, a genuine negotiation process must be pursued. The seminar once again demonstrated that the Strait of Hormuz is not only of regional but also of global strategic importance, and that international cooperation is indispensable for achieving peace.
