The Ankara University National Center for the Sea and Maritime Law (DEHUKAM) held a press conference on current developments in sea and maritime law on 12 May 2026. Chief Advisor to the President and Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Security and Foreign Policy Council, Ambassador Prof. Dr. Çağrı Erhan; DEHUKAM Chair of the Board of Directors Süleyman Önel; DEHUKAM Board Member and Presidential Legal Policies Council Member Prof. Dr. Yücel Acer; and Security and Foreign Policy Council Member Mehmet Akif Kireççi, Member of the Presidential Security and Foreign Policy Council Prof. Dr. Nurşin Güney, DEHUKAM Board Member Prof. Dr. Hasan Ayrancı, DEHUKAM CEO Dr. Mustafa Başkara, and (Ret.) Rear Admiral Dr. Ali Deniz Kutluk. The press conference was attended by representatives from 17 different media agencies. The meeting, which began with opening remarks by Süleyman Önel, featured presentations by Dr. Mustafa Başkara on current developments in sea and maritime law, including the Türkiye Marine Spatial Planning. Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Yücel Acer provided an overview of the draft Turkish Maritime Jurisdiction Areas Law. Ambassador Prof. Dr. Çağrı Erhan provided information on the work conducted within the Security and Foreign Policy Council regarding the preparation process of the draft law.
