Three Thematic Workshops Held in June 2026 Under the Umbrella Programme to Support the Updating of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and the Preparation of the 7th National Report

Hosted by the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks under the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, coordinated by the Ankara University National Center for the Sea and Maritime Law (DEHUKAM), and implemented with the support of the United Nations Environment Programme Global Environment Facility 8th Cycle (GEF-8), three thematic workshops were held in Ankara between June 19–25, 2026 under the Umbrella Programme.

June 19 Law and Policy Workshop
In line with the targets of the Kunming-Montreal (KM) Framework, the current state of national biodiversity legislation was assessed, legal and institutional gaps were analyzed across three thematic axes, and recommendations to be incorporated into the NBSAP were identified.

June 22 Spatial Planning Workshop
Under Target 1 of the Kunming-Montreal Framework, land and sea spatial planning policies and practices were evaluated from a biodiversity perspective, and proposals were developed to strengthen integrated spatial planning approaches.

June 25 Equal Participation of Women, Girls and Persons with Disabilities Workshop
Under Kunming-Montreal Framework Targets 22 and 23, how the equal participation of women, girls and persons with disabilities in biodiversity-related decision-making processes could be reflected in the NBSAP was discussed across four working tables.

We hope that the outputs obtained will contribute to our country’s biodiversity strategy and action plans.
