MaRDA Project National Stakeholder Workshop Held

National Stakeholder Workshop was held on June 16–17, 2026, at the Limak Ambassadore Hotel in Ankara, as part of the project titled “Improving marine monitoring and reporting practices in compliance to Marine Strategy Framework Directive”, which is being carried out by Ankara University National Center for the Sea and Maritime Law (DEHUKAM) in collaboration with NIRAS IC and the Romanian National Institute for Marine Research and Development (INCDM), and supported by the European Union’s Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance-III (IPA-III)

The National Stakeholder Workshop, attended by representatives of relevant public institutions and organizations conducting activities related to marine monitoring as well as academics, featured presentations by Project Leader Dr. Graham Saunders on the “Marine Strategy Framework Directive,” and by Sevil Öksüz, Head of the Water and Soil Pollution Monitoring Branch, on “Environmental Impact Assessment, Marine Monitoring Activities Conducted by the General Directorate of Permits and Inspection,” DEHUKAM Senior Researcher and Deputy Project Leader Prof. Dr. Herdem Aslan presented “Introduction to the MaRDA Project,” DEHUKAM Researcher Derya Ulutürk presented “International Conventions on the Protection of the Marine Environment to Which Türkiye is a Party,” DEHUKAM Researcher Çağrı Ünal presented “Türkiye’s Legal Framework: Gaps and Additional Steps Required for the Implementation of the MSFD and Regional Sea Conventions,” “Challenges in the Implementation of the MSFD in Türkiye: Articles 8, 9, 10, and 13” and “Challenges in the Implementation of the MSFD in Türkiye: Article 11 – Monitoring Programs” and Prof. Dr. Barış Salihoğlu presented “Blue Growth. Throughout the National Stakeholder Workshop, detailed technical and legal presentations on marine monitoring and reporting activities were delivered, and consultations were held with input from the participants.
