DEHUKAM CEO Dr. Mustafa Başkara, Senior Researcher Dr. Alperen Furkan Taş, and researchers Derya Ulutürk and Çağrı Ünal participated in the Oceans & Seas Workshop organized by the Turkish Presidency of the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on August 13–14, 2026, in Istanbul. The workshop program included participation from relevant public institutions and organizations, as well as civil society organizations, research centers, and academics conducting academic research and activities related to climate change specifically concerning oceans and seas at both the national and international levels.

Within the framework of the workshop program, DEHUKAM CEO Dr. Mustafa Başkara moderated the session titled “Strengthening Regional Cooperation for Ocean Solutions” on behalf of the COP31 Turkish Presidency. The session, which featured Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ziya Söğüt, Prof. Dr. Sadullah Levent Kuzu, Iryna Makarenko, Almıla Kından Cebbari, and Betül Bitir Soylu as speakers, discussed ways to strengthen regional cooperation through regional seas programs and other regional mechanisms, as well as proposed solutions to ocean-related challenges.
