The decision to establish the Climate Chatte Regional Activity Centre under United Nations Environment Programme Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP) in Türkiye was taken during the 23rd Conference of Parties (COP23) to the Barcelona Convention held on December 6th, 2023.

Intense bilateral and multilateral diplomatic efforts conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and DEHUKAM resulted in the proposal for the establishment of the Centre being presented in collaboration with the European Union and Türkiye and the Proposal unanimously being accepted by the Contracting Parties.

With the effects of climate change increasingly felt in the Mediterranean region, the Centre aims to play a leading role globally through its activities on adaptation and mitigation. We express our gratitude to all personnel who contributed to bringing such Centre to our country.
