The Symposium on Free and Open Seas will be Held on March 20, 2024

The forthcoming Symposium on Free and Open Seas, meticulously organized with the esteemed Japanese Embassy, commemorates the centenary milestone of diplomatic ties between Türkiye and Japan. Scheduled for 3 o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 20th of March, the gathering will unfold within Mahmut Esat Bozkurt Hall, located at the Ankara University Faculty of Law.

The inaugural discourse will be graced by His Excellency Takahiko Katsumata, Ambassador of Japan to Ankara, alongside Ambassador Burak Özügergin, Director-General of Maritime-Aviation-Border Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye. The symposium’s proceedings will be enriched by discussions, including an address by Prof. Dr. Yücel Acer on the topic of “High Seas and Freedom of Navigation Through Straits.” Moreover, Rector of Altınbaş University Prof. Dr. Çağrı Erhan is poised to deliver a scholarly address titled “The Concept and Applications of Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Eastern Mediterranean,” while Assoc. Prof. Seta Makoto will illuminate the nexus between the Law of the Sea and Naval Warfare within the context of Free and Open Seas during Armed Conflict. Lastly, Mr. Kohei Imai will expound upon “The Contributions to Free and Open Seas in World Politics: A Comparative Study Between Japan and Türkiye.”
