The European Union Maritime Security Strategy and Action Plan, prepared by the European Union and regulating the security architecture within maritime domains was first put into effect by the Council of the European Union in 2014. The action plan was updated in 2018, and to adapt to ongoing new developments it was revised and published on October 24, 2023.
Aiming to combat elements such as illegal activities, competition for natural resources, hybrid threats, and threats to freedom of navigation, this strategy document intends to promote rules-based governance in the maritime domain and accelerate international cooperation.
